Empowering First-Time Buyers Through Education, Grants, and Community Support

At the OnPath Foundation, we believe that homeownership is more than just a milestone—it’s a path to long-term financial security, community stability, and generational wealth. That’s why we’ve created a Homeownership Initiative that equips individuals and families with the tools, knowledge, and resources they need to take confident steps toward owning a home.

Whether someone is just beginning to explore the homebuying process or is ready to make the leap, our programs are designed to meet them where they are and walk with them every step of the way.

Pathways to Homeownership First-Time Homebuyer Grant

The Pathways to Homeownership Grant is a cornerstone of our initiative. This grant provides financial assistance to qualified first-time homebuyers, helping to cover essential costs such as down payments, closing fees, and related expenses that often present barriers to entry.

The grant is designed to support working families who are ready to invest in their future but need a little extra help to make homeownership a reality. By easing the financial burden, the program helps more people move from renting to owning—building equity, stability, and pride in their communities.

    First-Time Homebuyer Workshops

In addition to financial support, the OnPath Foundation offers free community-based workshops focused on educating aspiring homeowners. These First-Time Homebuyer Workshops are held throughout the year at accessible locations across Southeast Louisiana, including community centers, libraries, and partner organizations.

Led by knowledgeable housing and financial professionals, the workshops cover everything from budgeting and credit readiness to choosing a lender, understanding mortgage terms, and preparing for home maintenance and taxes. Attendees leave with a clear understanding of the homebuying process—and with confidence in their ability to make smart, informed decisions.

Workshops are offered in both English and Spanish, and participants who complete the program often become eligible for grant funding and other support services.
